Why I love Tiramisu
I’ve just returned from a quick weekend get away with the girls in Italy at my best friends parents that live there for 20 years…..oh, Italy ….I so love this country, the language, the food, the music, the people, the architecture, well, pretty much everything about it. 🙂
So, after trying tiramisu at every restaurant that we went to, I’ve come back home and had to give it a try. If you don’t know Tiramisu is a popular coffee-flavoured Italian custard dessert, that I adore. It’s made of ladyfingers dipped in coffee, but I prefer cappuccino for mine, layered with a whipped mixture of eggs, sugar, and mascarpone cheese, flavoured with cocoa.
So, with the insides learned from my best friends mother, I’ve made this tiramisu that I love so much and already made twice because is so good and can’t have enough of it.
This is the perfect dessert on a hot day; is creamy, fluffy and chilled…just yummy. This is why I love Tiramisu ( And you should too! 🙂 )
Hope you will like my take to the recipe as it is a little different from the normal tiramisu recipe, but it’s amazing and for sure will be the best choice for a quick and delicious sweet recipe when you have somebody visiting or just for you at home as it requires not to much cooking time.
Also, I have tried to use less sugar as I’m trying to eat less…if it will be possible 🙂 …. and it still remains sweet and delicious.
Please let me know if you will try it, will love to know if you like it!
- 3 eggs
- 3 tbsp powder sugar
- 5 gr vanilla extract
- 500 gr mascarpone cheese
- pinch of salt
- 8 buc chocolate cappuccino bags
- 1 big package ladyfingers
- Cocoa powder, for dusting
Separate the egg yolks from the whites.
Mix egg yolks and sugar with a hand mixer until thick, creamy and lightened into a pale yellow about 2 minutes.
Add mascarpone cheese and blend well.
In a separate bowl beat the egg whites to soft peaks and gently fold into the mixture.
Dip quickly the ladyfingers in the cappuccino mixture and lay out in a single layer on the bottom of a tray. Don't soak the ladyfingers too much.
Add half of the mascarpone mixture. Lay another layer of soaked ladyfingers and add the rest of the mascarpone mixture on top
Cover and refrigerate overnight or at least 4-6 hours before serving.
Sprinkle cocoa powder on top and serve
